Starting with the first edition of D&D on my dad's shelf and then continuing with second in middle school and third in high school, Dungeons and Dragons has always been one of my favorite games. Five years ago I got back into it as I put together a group that has been playing weekly. Since then I have joined another group and reestablished my high school group.
Written by Rob Schwalb, SotDL is the first system that I enjoyed playing besides D&D. I have both played and DMed this wonderful system. It is a flexible and powerful system that makes it easy to tell dark fantasy stories. From the simple dice system to one of the best initiative systems that I have ever used, this system is one that everyone should try.
As my first system (and one of the most commonly played) I have played D&D the most. I have been in lots of campaigns and one-shots. I ran a Westmarches campaign called Aiwan for my work group that lasted almost two years. And now I am running Curse of Strahd for the third time as it is one of the most masterful campaigns of fifth edition.
Currently playing in an excellent home brew and Rhime of the Frostmaiden.
These games by Fantasy Flight are two more new systems to the collection of games that I love to play. The best thing about these games is the narrative dice system. Instead of a binary pass/fail system there is a multi-axis system of passing and failing along with gaining advantage or threat and the rarer triumphs or despairs. It takes a little more to use but adds a lot of depth and dimension to the rolls.
Currently running a Westmarches campaign with several other game masters and about a dozen players.
